ANTELOPE GUIDED HUNTS
Antelope hunting in Oregon can very rewarding as long as you apply for the right unit. Eden
Ridge Outfitters, LLC has vast experience in the following units that we are going to discuss. The
Antelope numbers in Oregon are very stable and are doing well. Oregon Antelope hunting is
one of the most under rated animals that Oregon has to offer.
Oregon holds some great antelope if your successful and lucky enough to obtain a tag. Oregon
residents need to keep in the back of their mind you always have a chance to draw a tag in the
25% random draw. If you are successful in obtaining the Premium Antelope Tag and want some
professional help don’t hesitate to reach out. Antelope are one of the hardest animals to judge.
First off everyone needs to understand how difficult these tags are to draw and why. The
current Oregon Big Game Draw system allows non-residents a whopping 3% of all tags
available. The rest goes to Oregon residents. We truly understand the frustration of the non-
residents and all we can say is be patient as Eden Ridge Outfitters, LLC is working with a State
Representative to hopefully have this increased across the board to 10% in the near future. The
following units we will discuss would be our own top professional picks in order.
The Juniper Unit Rifle (471A) Tag is our #1 pick. This unit has produced some unbelievable bucks
over the last 25+ years. This hunt will take 27+ points for a non-resident to draw and roughly 21
points for an Oregon Resident.
The Beatty’s Butte Unit Rifle (470A), 470B) and (470R) Archery Tag is our #2 pick. This unit used
to be split into east and west but that changed a couple of years ago. This unit holds a handful
of great bucks. Scout hard to find that 80” + type buck. This unit will take 27+ and 25+ for non-
residents to draw and 21 points and 18 points for an Oregon Resident to be assured a tag. The
archery tag is another great option. Be willing to sit a water source in the blazing extreme heat
to be successful. The archery tag takes around 22+ preference points to draw as a non-resident.
The Warner Unit (474A), (474B) Rifle and (474R) Archery is our #3 pick. This unit has lots of
antelope and has the ability to turn up a giant. Make sure to scout the entire unit to locate the
best bucks available. The archery hunt is also very popular. Be prepared to sit water all day for a
chance at success. We have seen 90” antelope in this unit over the past few years. These hunts
are taking 26+ points for the rifle and around 20+ points for the archery for non-residents to
have a chance to draw.
The Whitehorse Unit (468) Rifle is our #4 pick. This unit has fair numbers of antelope and has
the possibility of a 80” type antelope. You will have to scout long and hard as this is a
big unit and be prepared to cover lots of desolate country to locate them. This hunt has been
taking 24 points to draw as a non-resident.
The Steens Unit (469A) Rifle (469M) Muzzleloader is our #5 pick. This unit has some good
antelope. Make sure to scout hard and often. Watch out for the rattle snakes. This Antelope
hunt will take 24+ points to draw as a non-resident. The muzzleloader hunt is after the rifle
hunt. Be very stealthy and able to shoot straight. This tag takes 15+ points to draw as a non-
resident.
The N. Wagontire Unit (473A) Rifle (473M) Muzzleloader and (473R) Archery Tag is our #6 th pick.
This unit has the ability to produce a couple of great bucks. The only problem is the
muzzleloader and archery hunts coincide with each other. Scout hard to find the best bucks
available. These tags should take 24+,16+ and 4+ preference points to draw as a non-resident.
The Hart Mountain (470C) Rifle and (470R) Archery Tag would be our #7 pick. You should see a
fair number of antelope. This once was the greatest place to hunt and is probably the most
prestigious place to hunt Oregon Antelope. Be prepared to weed through quite a few antelope
to find a decent one. The predators have decimated the Bighorn Sheep here to almost
extinction and have been working over the antelope. These tags have been taking 28+ points
for the rifle and 20+ preference points in the draw for non-residents. Super neat place but in
our professional opinion it’s not worth the wait.
The Catherine Creek Unit Youth (453T) Tag has the ability to break the Oregon State Record.
There aren’t large numbers of Antelope but there is a few giants’ lurking. For a non-resident
youth to draw this tag you are going to have needed to be applying since your 9 th birthday and
collecting the mentor preference points as well. You will then need to have your mentor points
issued to your antelope point total to have a chance to draw this tag. Last year the 2 tags in the
draw went to Oregon Residents with 15 and 14 preference points and the 3 rd tag was in the 25%
pool. You will have to do this to have a chance….
The Hart Mountain Unit Youth (470R1) Rifle Tag has the ability to find a good buck but you will
have to sift through a pile of them to find a decent one. This tag should only take around 16+
preference points to draw as well. So therefore, you will have to do the same thing as I have
listed in the hunt above to have a chance.
