RIO GRANDE TURKEY HUNTS
Oregon Spring/Fall Turkey Hunts
The State of Oregon started to transplant turkeys to suitable habitat back in the 1960’s. The ODFW transplanted both Rio Grande Turkey and Merriam’s Turkey in various places across
Oregon. The Rio Grande Turkey has proved adaptable and has spread throughout the state.
The larger of number of Rio Grande Turkeys are located in the Southwest and Willamette Valley in Oregon. The areas around John Day and Dayville are another great place to look for turkeys as well.
Oregon’s Rio Spring turkey season runs from April 15 th through May31st. Oregon Turkey hunting is very popular and hunters have the ability to take up to 3 Gobblers. The Fall Turkey season
hunters may take up to 2 birds. The youth Rio Grande Turkey season usually opens the
weekend before the 15 th . Make sure to get those kids outside.
We have multiple places to take Spring Turkey hunters and there is no shortage of birds. Most
hunters are tagged out by 9-10am and on their way to coffee and breakfast. Spring Turkey
season is a way to get out of the house and get outdoors in the spring to get rid of the so called
“Cabin Fever”. This is a great way to get your kids and grandkids out and teach them about gun
safety, patience, holding still, and educating them about the outdoors.
