The Wenaha Rocky Mountain Elk Unit is one of the most well-known Rocky Mountain Elk areas
in NE Oregon. This hunt area includes hunt numbers (256Y1) for the rifle any bull elk season.
This tag normally takes 27+ preference points to be considered to have a chance in the ODFW
Big Game Draw. The following archery hunt number (256R1) allows you to take any bull. This
tag is one of the most desired archery tags for Rocky Mountain Elk in NE Oregon. You will have
to have 27+ points to have an opportunity in The ODFW Big Game Draw.

The Mt. Emily Rocky Mountain Elk Unit is another highly desired elk area within NE Oregon. The
Mt. Emily rifle any bull elk tag hunt number (254Y1) is an excellent choice for rifle. This hunt
choice should exceed 26+ preference points for a chance in The Oregon Big Game Draw. The
Mt. Emily archery any bull elk tag hunt number (254R1) is a great opportunity at bugling bulls.
This archery tag should exceed 26+ preference points for a chance in The Oregon Big Game
Draw.

The Walla Walla Rocky Mountain Elk Unit is another highly desired elk area within NE Oregon.
In my opinion this unit is a sleeper. There were 3 bulls harvested over 380” in 2024 and one of
those was over 400”. The Walla Walla Elk any bull elk tag hunt number (255R1) is a great choice
for those who prefer a rifle hunt. This hunt choice should take somewhere around 26+ points

for a chance in the Oregon Big Game Draw. The Walla Walla archery any bull elk tag hunt
number (255R1) is another great opportunity for bugling bulls. This archery tag should take
around 26+ preference points for a chance in The Oregon Big Game Draw.

These Elk units listed above also known as “The Big 3” are definitely the most popular. If your
fortunate to draw one of these tags make sure that you are in the best shape that you can be
in. Archery hunters need to be physically fit and ready for long all-day hunts and ready to spike
out if needed. The rifle hunters also need to be in good shape as well and make sure that your
shooting ability is very well honed as some shoots may exceed over 600 yards.
