BIGHORN SHEEP

Oregon has two different species of Bighorn Sheep. First species is The Rocky Mountain Bighorn
Sheep, they are the largest wild sheep in North America and are one of the two subspecies in
The State of Oregon. The second species is The California Bighorn in which have a wider range
of habitat than that of their Rocky Mountain Bighorn cousins. The California Bighorn Sheep are usually smaller, with a less block build and a little smaller in horn size.

Eden Ridge Outfitters, LLC has a lead consultant for Bighorn Sheep. Our lead consultant who is a
(Ret) ODFW Biologist of 47 years. He started in 1965 and retired in 2013. He helped play an
instrumental role in the reintroduction to The Rocky Mountain Bighorn in NE Oregon. He
assisted with over 35 different transplants of Wild Bighorn Sheep in NE Oregon from 1971 thru
2011. With the knowledge that he is able to assist with still plays a big integral part in the
continuing efforts to maintain the Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep and California Bighorn Sheep
in Oregon.

Eden Ridge Outfitters, LLC has a staff of Bighorn Sheep guides that has years of experience
and has a total of well over 400 different Bighorn Sheep harvests from all over The United
States.

In the fall of 1998, our owner was able to take his very own California Bighorn in The Alvord Peaks in
Oregon and at that time it was the #2 California Bighorn ever taken in The World. Since then,
Eden Ridge Outfitters, LLC has had the opportunity to take several California Bighorns scoring
over 170” and a handful over the 180” mark including the “New World and Oregon State
Record” California Bighorn at an amazing score of 191-5/8”. This ram was taken out of The John
Day Unit.

Eden Ridge Outfitters, LLC is giving the following information as a professional courtesy to the
Oregon residents and non-residents. If you would like to obtain further information, feel free to
call us a call as we have guided multiple clients in most all of the units that Oregon has to offer.
So, if you would like any other information on other Bighorn Sheep Units don’t hesitate to call.

Wenaha Unit Rocky Mountain Bighorn Unit (556) This unit is the best unit for an Oregon
Resident. This unit has some great rams and is only available every 3rd year for Oregon Residents
as it’s on a three-year rotation with The State of Washington and The Umatilla Indian Tribe. There is also a current disease issue with the Bighorn Sheep in a nearby unit.  We will keep you posted.

N. Snake and S. Snake River Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep Units (559A1) and (559A2) these
are the most popular for Oregon Residents. This area is having some disease issues as well.! We will keep you posted.  There are some great rams around. Be in the “Best Shape” of your life!! This unit will not only test you physically but mentally. Watch out for snakes and hire an outfitter if you’re uncertain. Remember this is a hunt of a "Lifetime"!!
